The loud pop and crackle filled the silenced air and shortly after multiple colored lights brightened the dark sky. There were fireworks on the street and fireworks way up high. The celebration of the 4th of July took place most of the day and the “ooohs…and aaahhhs” were now closing down the night. Once again we celebrated our freedom. The freedom to spend time with family and friends. The freedom to feel safe because of the brave who made it happen and continue to make it happen. Multiple freedoms are prevalent on this special day and one of them stands out to me the most: we have the freedom to choose.
The choices we make impact our daily lives and the legacy we will leave behind. Some don’t get that choice. For others, their choices are made for them before they are born. For us tho, because of our freedom, our choices are up to us. We sometimes forget this. We point fingers. We make excuses. We say “because of so and so” and “because of such and such.” No more excuses!
Today, you can choose what is best for you and your legacy. Start by focusing or refocusing on your health. Your health truly is your wealth. Revisit the goals you set for yourself at the beginning of 2015. Choose to accomplish more during this second half than you did the first 6 months. Choose the single most important goal that you wrote down back in January and act upon it every day. Or choose to make one of these your top focus for the rest of the year.
- Workout 3-4 times per week
- Eat protein during every meal
- Drink 10 or more glasses of water per day
- Get up and move for 5 minutes of every hour you are seated
- Practice proper breathing for 5 minutes before you go to bed
These are just examples of ways to improve your health. You choose what means the most to you. And then act upon it. Small steps. 1% daily victories add up to big successes over time. Choose today as the day you begin. Why wait? You can choose to or you can choose not to. Either way you will get exactly what you want.
The next time the fireworks are filling the sky I hope you are reminded of all the impactful choices you made. And don’t forget the freedom to make each choice.
